Abstract
This study addressed the role of the ottoman state in confronting the crusader expansion in North and East Africa in 16 century, the Importance of this study stems from the region’s significance to ottoman state.The study also aimed to identify the role played by the ottoman state, protecting its Muslims and explaining the factors of that contributed to their rise in this region, and the ottoman state’s response to them, in addition to clarifying the consequences of this role.This study followed the historical method by gathering, classifying and analyzing basic information. This study in addition to the presenter indirection and conclusion is divided into three main sections, the first concerns the Spanish crusader expansion in Algeria and Tunisia, the second concerns the confrontation the knights of S.t John in Libya. The third focus was or the Portuguese crusader expansion in East Africa.The most important finding of this study is that Muslims in North and East Africa, they were too weak to face these expansion therefore they appealed to the ottoman state which responded to them, with aim of protecting Muslims and strategic Locations, thus the ottoman state succeeded in removing the Spanish expansion from North Africa, and failed to eliminate the Portuguese expansion from East Africa but it limited its danger and prevented its north wand advance
